Speakline Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 20, 2026

This policy applies to the Speakline mobile application ("Speakline", "we", "us", "our") available on the Google Play Store. Speakline is a dictation (speech-to-text) application that turns your speech into text and inserts it into whatever text field you are currently focused on.

By using Speakline, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the application.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account or sign in, we collect:

1.2 Dictation Content

When you use Speakline, we process and store your dictations:

1.3 Usage and Diagnostic Data

We collect limited usage data to operate and improve the service:

1.4 What We Do NOT Collect

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who process it on our behalf to run the service:

Provider Purpose
Supabase Hosting our backend database and authentication (stores your account and dictation history).
Deepgram Cloud speech-to-text transcription (processes your audio).
PostHog Product analytics (usage events only, never transcripts).
Google (Firebase Crashlytics) Crash and error reporting.
RevenueCat Subscription and entitlement management.
Google Play Billing Processing your subscription payments. No card details ever pass through Speakline.

These providers are bound by their own privacy policies and process data solely to perform services for us.

4. Audio and Speech Recognition

Speakline offers two transcription engines:

Our server controls when cloud transcription is available. When cloud transcription is unavailable, Speakline automatically falls back to on-device transcription.

Speakline transcribes, it does not translate. No generative AI models are applied to your content.

5. What Happens to Your Dictation

6. Analytics and Diagnostics

We use PostHog to understand how the application is used. Analytics events contain no transcripts and no information about the apps you dictate into. We collect closed, predefined event names (e.g., "dictation_completed", "dictation_failed", "subscription_started"). We use your Supabase user ID as an analytics identifier to correlate events.

We use Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports that help us fix bugs. Crash reports may contain device and technical diagnostic information.

7. Permissions and System Features Used

To work the way you expect, Speakline uses the following device capabilities:

Permission / Feature Purpose
Microphone To capture your speech for transcription (required).
System overlay (display over other apps) To show the Speakline bubble on top of other apps.
Foreground service To keep the dictation session active while you record.
Notifications To notify you about your trial and service messages.
Accessibility service To read — only at the moment of insertion — the currently focused editable text field so your dictated text can be inserted, and to detect when you switch focus. You enable this manually in system Settings. Speakline does not filter keystrokes or collect the contents of other apps beyond the field into which you instruct it to insert text.
Internet access To transmit dictations, manage your account, and check entitlements.

8. Data Retention and Your Choices

9. Data Security

We transmit all data in transit using industry-standard encryption (TLS/WebSocket secure connections). Audio and transcripts are streamed/stored through security-hardened, PCI-DSS-compliant and SOC 2-compliant service providers. We restrict access to personal data to authorized personnel and service providers that need it to operate the service.

No method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure; while we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

10. Children's Privacy

Speakline is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and, where appropriate, within the application. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates when it was last revised. Your continued use of Speakline after changes constitute acceptance of the revised policy.
